The classroom buzzed with voices, the rustling of wrappers, and the smell of other people’s lunches during the break. Thomas sat at his desk slightly off to the side, trying not to draw attention to himself.
He carefully opened his backpack and took out a simple bundle, wrapped in thin paper, slightly crumpled at the edges.
“So, Thomas, cheese and tomato with salt again today?” — someone sneered from the back row, and the class burst into laughter.
The mockery grew louder, the words sharper. For some it was just a joke, but for him it felt like stones being thrown straight at his heart.
Thomas was the “country boy” with worn clothes, simple shoes, and a quiet voice. But behind that were early mornings, helping his parents, and hard work no one wanted to think about.
When one of the classmates approached to mock him again, the classroom door opened and the teacher walked in. She didn’t shout, but her gaze immediately silenced the noise.
She walked up to the desk and asked Thomas what he was holding in his hands. Then, looking at the class, she said: “Behind simple food there is work, care, and love. Mocking it is shameful for you.”
“That’s why today you will receive a lesson after which you will never dare to laugh at other people’s food again,” the teacher said.

The next day, the teacher organized a real “field trip” for the class.
