The crime boss fired the housekeeper after discovering that she had secretly been teaching his mute sister sign language. But a few days later, he received a report about the young woman’s past. As he read it, his face turned pale: it turned out that his own men had once destroyed her life, and that she herself was hiding a terrible truth from him… 😨
Marco Ricci was a rich and ruthless man whom even his own subordinates feared. But there was one problem that neither his money nor his connections could solve.
His younger sister, Isabella, had stopped speaking after witnessing the murder of their parents seven years earlier. Since then, the girl had barely communicated with anyone.
One day, Marco suddenly heard laughter coming from her room.
He opened the door and froze. Isabella was sitting on the floor beside the young housekeeper, Nicole. They were communicating with their hands, and Isabella was smiling more happily than Marco had seen her smile in years.
“What is going on here?!” he demanded sharply.
Isabella recoiled in fear.
“I’m teaching her sign language,” Nicole replied calmly. “Your sister wants to communicate. She’s simply never been given the opportunity.”
“You were hired to clean this house, not to treat my sister! Pack your things!”
Nicole tried to object, but Marco ordered her to leave immediately.
After Nicole left, Isabella stopped coming out of her room and even refused to eat.
Marco then ordered his head of security to find out everything about the former housekeeper.
Two days later, the security chief entered his office carrying a folder.
“Marco, you need to see this.”
It turned out that Nicole had been a well-known specialist in speech rehabilitation and communication following severe psychological trauma. But three years earlier, she had suddenly abandoned her career.
Marco turned the page and saw a photograph of a young woman with her husband and little daughter.
“What happened to them?” he asked.
The head of security lowered his eyes.
“They were killed by our men. And the worst part, Marco, is that the order came from someone you still consider your most loyal friend…”

“Who gave the order?” Marco asked quietly.
“Antonio. Your deputy.”
Marco sprang to his feet.
“That’s impossible! He’s worked with me for twenty years!”
“Three years ago, Antonio ordered the assassination of a man. His men opened fire near a playground. Nicole’s husband and their four-year-old daughter happened to be there. They died at the scene.”
Marco sank into his chair. He remembered that day. Antonio had told him that the operation had gone smoothly and that no innocent bystanders had been harmed.
“Why did she come to work for me specifically?”
“I don’t know. But there’s more. After the tragedy, Nicole spent several months receiving treatment for severe depression. She lost everything.”
That same evening, Marco went to Nicole’s home himself.
The young woman opened the door and turned pale.
“What do you want? I don’t work for you anymore.”
“I know what happened to your family.”
Nicole froze.
“Then you finally know why I hate people like you.”
Marco lowered his head.
“Forgive me. I didn’t know what my men had done to your loved ones.”
“And if you had known, would that have brought my daughter back?” Nicole asked, tears filling her eyes.
Marco had no answer.
“Why did you help my sister in the first place?”
Nicole wiped away her tears.
“Because one day I saw her sitting alone and crying. I know what it means to lose your family. Isabella isn’t responsible for your crimes.”
Marco explained that after Nicole left, his sister had almost stopped eating.
“Please come back. I’ll pay you whatever you ask.”
“I don’t need your money. And I won’t return to a house where people believe they have the right to control other people’s lives.”
Marco left without another word.
The next day, he handed the police information about the crime committed three years earlier and provided a statement against Antonio. The investigation established that his deputy had been involved in the deaths of Nicole’s family. Antonio was arrested.
Marco also confessed to his own crimes and agreed to cooperate with the investigation, knowing that he would not escape punishment himself.
Before his arrest, he asked Nicole for one meeting with Isabella.
She agreed.
When Nicole entered the room, Isabella rushed toward her and hugged her tightly. Then she began signing something rapidly with her hands.
Nicole burst into tears.
“What is she saying?” Marco asked.
“She’s saying, ‘I thought you had abandoned me too.’”
Marco turned away to hide his tears.
Several months later, Nicole helped arrange a place for Isabella at a good rehabilitation center and continued working with her. Gradually, Isabella learned to communicate fluently through sign language and began enjoying life again.
Marco was sentenced to prison for his crimes.
One day, Isabella visited her brother with Nicole. She looked at Marco and signed a few words.
“What did she say?” he asked.
Nicole replied:
“She said that she loves you. But she no longer wants to live in fear.”
Marco began to cry. For the first time, he understood that genuine care was not about expensive gifts or bodyguards. It was about giving the people you love the chance to live peaceful and happy lives.
Nicole never forgave him for the past. But she saved Isabella from loneliness because she knew that children and innocent loved ones should never have to pay for someone else’s crimes.
