Before the wedding, my future mother-in-law poured a glass of wine over my blind mother, and my fiancé didn’t even defend her. I took off my ring and called off the wedding, but they still didn’t know who my father was or what awaited them two weeks later… 😨
That evening, my parents and I met my fiancé Daniel’s family at an expensive restaurant. There was only one month left until the wedding.
My mother had lost her sight three years earlier after a serious illness. But she had learned to live independently and never complained.
My future mother-in-law, Victoria, looked at her with contempt from the very first minute.
— Daniel, have you really thought this through? — she asked. — Why do you want to marry a woman whose mother is disabled? Later, you’ll have to take care of her for the rest of your life.
I felt my mother squeeze my hand tighter.
— My mother doesn’t depend on anyone — I replied.
Victoria smirked.
— Of course. And who helps her eat now?
My mother calmly said:
— Don’t worry, I manage perfectly well on my own.
But Victoria wouldn’t stop.
When my mother’s cane accidentally fell to the floor, she pushed it away with her foot.
— Get this out of here!
My father, who had been silent until then, looked at her.
— Please, don’t speak to my wife like that.
Victoria smiled contemptuously.
— Do you even know what kind of family you’re about to become related to? My husband owns a huge construction company. We’re used to dealing with people at our level.
My father said nothing.
He was wearing a simple gray suit, so Victoria had decided from the very beginning that our family was poor.
My mother quietly said:
— Money doesn’t make a person better than others.
Victoria suddenly grabbed her glass.
— And now you’re going to lecture me?!
Before anyone could stop her, she threw the wine directly into my mother’s face.
Mom cried out. Wine ran down her cheeks and dress.
— Mom! — I rushed to her.
Victoria merely sneered.
— It’s nothing. She can’t see anyway!
I turned to Daniel, expecting him to at least defend my mother.
But he remained calmly seated at the table.
— Sofia, don’t make a scene. You know what my mother is like when she gets angry.
At that moment, I realized I didn’t want to marry this man.
I took off my engagement ring and placed it in front of him.
— There will be no wedding.
— Are you serious?! — Daniel jumped to his feet.
— Absolutely.
Victoria burst out laughing.
— Who would want you anyway? Do you even realize what a wealthy family you’re turning your back on?
Then my father slowly stood up, helped my mother to her feet, and calmly said:
— Today you have shown what kind of people you are. Soon you will find out who I really am.
We left the restaurant, leaving them sitting at the table…
Two weeks later, Victoria, pale-faced, arrived at our house with her husband. When my father opened the door, she dropped to her knees in front of my blind mother, begging her to forgive her for that evening… 😨

When we left the restaurant, Mom was still crying.
— Forgive me, sweetheart. Because of me, your wedding won’t happen.
I hugged her tightly.
— Mom, you have nothing to be sorry for. I don’t want to marry a man who allowed you to be humiliated.
Dad drove us home in silence.
Two days later, Daniel called me.
— Sofia, Mom is ready to forget about this whole thing. Let’s not cancel the wedding.
— Your mother poured wine into my blind mother’s face, and now she’s ready to forget about it?!
I hung up.
Meanwhile, Daniel’s family began having problems.
His father owned a construction company and was preparing to sign a major contract with an investor. But unexpectedly, the investor withdrew from the deal.
That investor was my father.
I knew he was involved in business, but I had no idea how large his business actually was. He owned several companies and invested in major construction projects.
When my father learned how Victoria had treated my mother, he decided not to have anything to do with their family.
When Victoria’s husband learned the reason for the rejection, he was horrified.
— Do you realize who you insulted?! — he shouted at his wife. — Without his money, we’ll lose a huge project!
Two weeks later, Daniel’s entire family was standing at our door.
Dad let them in.
When Victoria saw my mother, she suddenly dropped to her knees in front of her.
— Elena, please forgive me! I was wrong! Please ask your husband not to pull out of our project!
Mom calmly asked:
— If my husband had been a poor man, would you have come to apologize then too?
Victoria remained silent.
— So you’re not sorry for what you did to me. You’re sorry about the money you lost — Mom said quietly.
Daniel walked over to me.
— Sofia, I love you. Let’s start over.
— When your mother humiliated my mom, you didn’t even try to defend her. And now you suddenly remember that you love me?
He lowered his head.
My father turned to the guests.
— I’m not going to take revenge on you. But I will not work with you. My decision is final.
They left empty-handed.
Later, I learned that Daniel’s family had lost the lucrative contract, but they were able to continue their business.
And I never regretted calling off the wedding.
One day, Mom asked me:
— Sweetheart, are you sure you’re happy?
I hugged her.
— Of course, Mom. It’s better to remain without a husband than to spend my whole life with a man who doesn’t respect my family.
Mom smiled and held me tightly.
