The husband sent his wife to a remote village, insisting that the fresh country air would help her lose weight, while secretly dreaming of a new life with his young secretary… But a few months later, he finally decided to go back for her. The moment Daniel stepped across the threshold of the old house, he froze. What he saw inside left him completely stunned. 😮
“Daniel, I still don’t understand why this is necessary,” Emma said quietly, looking at her husband.
“It’s very simple,” he replied with forced calm. “A change of scenery will do you good. Fresh air, long walks, country life—it’ll all improve your health. And you’ll lose those extra pounds too.”
He looked at her for a long moment, but there was neither care nor compassion in his eyes. Emma knew perfectly well that she had gained weight because of a long medical treatment, yet she chose not to argue. She had realized long ago that no explanation would ever matter to him.
“And where are you taking me?” she asked.
“To a quiet place. You’ll like it there,” Daniel answered with a faint smile.
Several hours later, they turned off the main road. The pavement ended, and the car bounced violently along a rough dirt road. The landscape grew emptier with every mile, and the old, leaning houses looked as though they had been forgotten for decades.
Finally, the car stopped in front of a half-collapsed cottage with a crooked roof.
“You’ll stay here for a while,” Daniel said calmly. “Fresh air and a healthy lifestyle won’t hurt you. Besides, it’ll help you lose weight.”
Emma stared silently at the old house, unable to believe what she was seeing.
“Are you serious?”
“Of course. It’s peaceful here. No temptations, just nature. It’s exactly what you need right now.”
He took her suitcase out of the trunk, placed it beside the gate, and, without waiting for a reply, got back into the car.
Emma watched as the car disappeared around the bend. She pulled out her phone, hoping at least to call her husband, but there was no signal. An unfamiliar silence surrounded her as the sun slowly disappeared below the horizon.
She looked at the weathered little house once more, sighed deeply, and whispered:
“Well, Emma… It looks like there’s no way back for now.”
Nearly a month passed. Daniel had no intention of returning anytime soon. He was enjoying his freedom and the life he had dreamed of for so long.
Only several weeks later did he finally decide to come back for Emma.
As he approached the old house, he frowned and slowly pushed the door open.
His breath caught instantly, and the color drained from his face. What he saw inside left him rooted to the spot. 😱

Standing before him was a completely different Emma. She had clearly lost weight, but that wasn’t what shocked Daniel the most. The confusion and pain he had seen in her eyes when he left her there had disappeared. Now she looked calm, confident, and genuinely happy.
Over the past few weeks, the villagers had welcomed her as one of their own.
They helped her repair the old house, taught her how to care for a small vegetable garden, and the daily walks, the simple rhythm of country life, and the absence of constant stress had truly restored her health.
For the first time in a very long time, Emma smiled sincerely.
“Pack your things. I’ve come to take you home,” Daniel said awkwardly.
Emma looked at him calmly and gently shook her head.
“I’m not going anywhere with you.”
He stared at her in disbelief.
“What do you mean you’re not coming? This was only supposed to be a temporary stay.”
“For you, maybe. For me, it became the beginning of a new life. It was here that I realized my weight was never the problem. The real problem was living beside someone who made me feel like I was never good enough.”
Daniel tried to respond, but no words came.
Without saying a word, Emma handed him an envelope. Inside was a divorce petition she had signed several days earlier.
But that wasn’t the only thing he had lost. During the time she spent there, someone entered Emma’s life who accepted her exactly as she was.
He never criticized her weight, never tried to change her, and was always there to support her no matter what. With him, Emma finally felt loved again—and truly happy.
Daniel slowly lowered himself onto the old wooden bench outside the house. Only then did he realize that, in trying to get rid of his “inconvenient” wife, he had lost forever the woman who had once loved him with all her heart.
