The girl, Jessica Rodriguez, originally from Costa Rica, and an overweight model.
She wants to become Miss Universe, because the rules of this pageant have changed and allow women of different appearances to take part, whether they are married or pregnant.
And the plus size model tries to break beauty stereotypes and become the winner of the competition.
So, she began to fight against fatphobia, that is to say against the discriminatory attitude towards overweight or obese people.
She adopted the ideas of a movement called body positivity which spread in the 1970s, when unusual models appeared in magazines.
This movement evaluates all types of bodies and teaches that we should be proud of our bodies. And over time, this ideology has been propagated to the present day.
Jessica believes that although her body is different from those of thin women, she wants models like her to be considered beautiful, because there is nothing abnormal about them.
“I am a powerful woman with strong arms and legs,” says Jessica.
The overweight model wants to participate in the casting of Miss Costa Rica to show that beauty does not depend on shape or size.
