Instead, she turned to her favorite pastime, secondhand shopping. Every bride dreams of finding the perfect wedding dress, but Jillian Lynch opted for a traditional thrift store first.

“I always buy secondhand stuff, so it was just an option,” Gillian told Insider. “I didn’t even think about going to the bridal store.”

Jillian’s love story is unique. She and her boyfriend had been together for 13 years, always considering each other life companions, but initially, marriage wasn’t on the agenda.

However, fate had other plans. “I don’t know what changed, but about a year ago, we said, ‘let’s be a couple,'” she recalls.

After organizing an intimate celebration, the couple planned a small 30-person wedding at a public house in Tempe, Arizona. Surrounded by close friends and family, the venue was perfect.

But what about the dress? Jillian said she was going to do something she didn’t want to do.

“I was just starting to look for a simple white dress, not a wedding dress. I didn’t want anything too formal,” she explains. True to her bargain-hunting spirit, Jillian began searching for secondhand dresses.

And after only 4 days, she stumbled upon an unusual gem: an impeccable dress from Camila Coelho, still with the tag.

The elegant white dress, adorned with bold slits and an asymmetrical neckline, was stunning. And the price. Modest, only $33.75.

To put it in perspective, the same dress is sold at Revolve for 220 euros. Delighted with her find, Jillian shared her dress on TikTok.

And the icing on the cake. Secondhand, she found a pair of wedding shoes from the Visanze collection for just 8 dollars.

At first, it wasn’t known that she had worn it for her memorable day, but the very positive comments from viewers sealed the deal.

“When becoming a bride, people tend to shop for a wedding dress with their mother, a wedding party, or a group of people to get an opinion,” she speculates.

She felt that by sharing her journey on TikTok, she was surrounded by such a supportive community. To make the dress truly unique, Jillian opted for a few alterations.

She tightened her hips, replaced adjustable straps with custom straps, and added a bit of lace to the cut.

After these adjustments, the total value of her dress was $113.75, and it cost $110. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt better than this,” Gillian enthuses.

“That’s exactly how the bride should feel on her wedding day, as if she were at the height of beauty. That’s how I felt when I wore it.”

And in the spirit of true DIY, Jillian took care of her hair and makeup to ensure that every detail was true to herself.

She doesn’t spend her whole life dreaming of that day, but Jillian accepts and cherishes every moment, even the most traditional.

She fondly remembers asking her father to walk her down the aisle. “I saw how much it meant to him, and ultimately, it made a big difference to me too,” she says.

The wedding day became a testament to the couple’s love and their journey together. It wasn’t about perfection but about love, unity, and celebrating the beginning of a new chapter.

“We took everything with a smile,” Gillian says with a smile. “We were together, and we had a fun day instead of trying to organize a smoothly planned event.”
