😱😵 A colleague of my husband called and said he would be delayed on a business trip, even though he was actually at home. What I discovered afterward turned my life upside down…
The phone rang while I was washing dishes. Number — unknown.
— Hello?
— Good day, is this Mrs. Laura Wilson? Wife of Alex Wilson?
— Yes.
— This is David, your husband’s colleague. Alex asked me to inform you — he will be delayed on a business trip for a few days. Poor signal, he can’t call himself.
I froze.
— What business trip? Alex is at home. On vacation.
Pause. Then short:
— Sorry, must be a mistake. — And the call ended.
Alex really was at home — tinkering with the car in the garage. But the call stayed in my mind.
That evening I asked:
— Do you have a colleague named David?
He tensed, coughed.
— Yes, a newbie. Why do you ask?
— Just curious… why does he know my number?
He muttered something but avoided my gaze.
The next morning, my daughter said she saw her father outside the company office — in work uniform, getting into a truck.
But his car was in the garage.
Then I realized: the vacation was a lie. And if he lied about the trip, then my whole life had been a performance, and I had to find out who I had actually been living with all these years…

I couldn’t calm down. Every noise seemed suspicious, every detail — a clue.
That evening Alex acted as if nothing had happened: joked, asked what was for dinner, talked about trivial things. Only his eyes were different — cold, alert.
At night he talked on the phone in the kitchen for a long time. I quietly approached the door.
— Yes, everything under control… No, she knows nothing — he whispered.
When I entered, he abruptly ended the call.
— Who were you talking to? — I asked.
— A client. Work problems.
The next morning he was gone. On the pillow, a short note:
“Do not call. I will explain everything when I can.”
Phone — out of range.
Several days passed. I had almost resigned myself to his absence. And one evening, I heard knocking at the door. My heart raced.
Alex entered. In work uniform, with a bag, as if nothing had happened. He sat across from me, eyes calm but tense.
— Laura… — he began quietly. — I shouldn’t have told you this.
— But where did you disappear to? Why did you lie about the trip? — I asked, holding back a tremble.
He sighed.
— I don’t just do routine routes. These aren’t normal trips. I have special assignments. Confidential. I… am like an agent, only for the company. And this… concerns all of us. Your peace of mind, our future. I didn’t want you to know yet.
I looked at him, trying to discern the truth. Everything felt both real and incredible.
— You mean… secret missions? — I whispered.
He nodded.
— Yes.
We sat in silence. One thing was certain: the world I knew had changed forever.
