Five minutes after the divorce, I picked up the children and went to the airport. My ex-husband did not even try to stop us: he was busy transferring 40% of his shares to his mistress’s unborn child. But a few hours later, during her ultrasound, the doctor said one sentence that made my ex-husband turn pale… 😨
At ten in the morning, I put my final signature on the divorce papers. Nine years of marriage ended with a few strokes of a pen, but I had no tears left.
Seven-year-old Lucas and five-year-old Emma were waiting for me outside the door. Two small suitcases stood beside them because we were planning to leave immediately after the divorce.
My now ex-husband Daniel looked happy. As soon as the documents were signed, his pregnant mistress Vanessa entered the office.
Daniel hugged her and placed another document in front of the lawyer. He was transferring 40% of his company’s shares to Vanessa’s unborn child, whom he already called his “heir.”
He did not even remember our children.
Vanessa took a check out of her handbag and held it out to me.
— Take it. You’ll need it. Your children would only get in the way of our new family anyway.
I calmly folded the check and put it in my bag.
— Sometimes a lie costs far more than it seems, I replied.
Two hours later, the children and I were already sitting on the plane.
Meanwhile, Daniel had gathered relatives and business partners at a private clinic. He wanted to turn Vanessa’s ultrasound into a real celebration and show everyone his “future heir.”
But as soon as the doctor began the examination, the guests’ phones almost simultaneously received the same message.
A document containing the results of a DNA test appeared on their screens.
The doctor read the results several times, then looked at Daniel and slowly moved the ultrasound probe away.
— Mr. Daniel, before we talk about your heir, there is something you should know…
A complete silence fell over the room. And a few minutes later, my ex-husband went pale with terror when he heard the doctor’s words. But he still had no idea what cruel “game” I had prepared for him… 😱

The doctor looked at the test results once again and then turned to Daniel.
— According to the information provided to the clinic, you are not the child’s biological father.
Vanessa suddenly sat down and began insisting that there must have been a mistake. Daniel demanded another test, but then his best friend Marcus, who had been standing off to the side until then, spoke up.
He was as white as a sheet.
That was enough for Daniel to understand everything.
A few minutes later, Vanessa confessed: she had been secretly seeing Marcus for several months. But the worst part was something else. She had known she was pregnant before she even told Daniel the news and had deliberately allowed him to believe the baby was his.
That was exactly why I had remained silent until the divorce.
A week before signing the papers, I accidentally found the messages between Vanessa and Marcus on Daniel’s old tablet. I gave copies to my lawyer, and the results of a test Vanessa had secretly taken earlier became the final piece of evidence.
But my “game” was not revenge at all.
I simply let Daniel make his own choice.
He had signed the document transferring 40% of his shares to the unborn child with his own hand, without even thinking about Lucas and Emma.
When the truth came out, his lawyers immediately began reviewing the documents. It turned out that the transfer of the shares had not yet become final and could be challenged because of the false information about paternity.
For Daniel, however, it was already little consolation.
Fifty guests had witnessed his humiliation, his business partners had heard Vanessa’s confession, and the man he called his best friend turned out to be her true lover.
Late that evening, Daniel called me.
— You knew everything?
I looked at the children, who were sleeping peacefully beside me, and answered:
— Yes. But I didn’t take anything away from you, Daniel. You were the one who decided who mattered more to you.
After that, I turned off my phone.
For the first time in many years, I had no desire either to argue or to prove anything. I took the children away not out of revenge, but because I had finally understood something: sometimes the best response to someone who has betrayed their family is simply to let them face the consequences of their own choices.
