I fell in love with a woman who was 20 years older than me, and I thought our meeting had been a coincidence. But one day, I found an old photograph showing me standing beside her as a little boy. When I discovered why she had really gotten to know me, I was overwhelmed with horror… 😨
I was twenty-five when I met Laura, a forty-five-year-old woman. At first, the age difference made me uncomfortable, but after our first meeting, I stopped thinking about it.
Being with Laura felt incredibly easy. She knew how to listen, remembered every little detail I told her, and never played with my feelings.
After six months, I was spending almost every weekend at her place.
Shortly before her birthday, Laura noticed a beautiful green dress in a store window. The price was high, so she simply smiled and said:
— Maybe someday.
The next day, I returned to the store and bought it.
When I handed her the gift box on her birthday, Laura was deeply touched and immediately went into the bedroom to try it on.
I stayed on the couch and took out my phone so I could photograph her in the new dress. But the phone slipped from my hand and fell between the cushion and the armrest.
As I reached down to retrieve it, I accidentally pulled out an old photograph along with it.
At first, I was going to place it on the table, but then I suddenly recognized a familiar face.
My breath caught in my throat.
It was me.
About eight years old.
For several seconds, I stared at the photograph, unable to understand why Laura had a picture from my childhood that I had never shown her.
Then I turned it over.
There was an old note written on the back.
I read the first few words, and my hands began to shake.
At that moment, Laura called cheerfully from the bedroom:
— Alex, close your eyes! I’m coming out!
But I couldn’t answer.
Because the words on the back explained why Laura had really gotten to know me… 😨

I stared at the old photograph and felt everything tightening inside me. In the picture, Laura stood next to my parents, and beside her was a smiling eight-year-old boy — me.
When she walked out of the bedroom wearing the new dress, I silently held up the photograph.
Laura froze.
Her expression changed instantly.
— Where did you get that? she asked quietly.
— Better tell me why you have it. Did you know me before?
She remained silent for a few seconds, then slowly sat down across from me.
The truth was worse than anything I had imagined.
Many years ago, Laura had been my mother’s best friend. She often visited our home, looked after me when my parents were away, and knew our family extremely well.
But one day, she fell in love with my father.
She confessed her feelings and asked him to leave his family for her. My father refused and told my mother everything. After a major argument, my parents cut Laura out of their lives forever.
She never forgave them.
Years passed. One day, Laura saw me online as an adult and immediately recognized me.
That was when she came up with a plan.
— I wanted them to suffer, she admitted. I wanted to show up in front of them with you one day and see the look on their faces.
A chill ran through me.
That meant our first meeting had never been a coincidence. Her smiles, attention, and our dates had originally been part of her revenge against my parents.
— And the six months with me? Was that a lie too?
Laura suddenly burst into tears.
— At first, yes. But then everything changed. I never meant to fall in love with you.
I looked at the woman I would have done almost anything for just that morning, and I could no longer tell where her revenge ended and her genuine feelings began.
But the worst part happened a few seconds later.
I asked:
— Do my parents know we’re together?
Laura slowly raised her eyes.
— They do now. I sent our photo to your mother last night.
At that moment, my phone started ringing.
The screen read: “Mom.”
I looked at the phone, then at Laura, and had no idea what to do. On one hand, she had deliberately entered my life to take revenge on my parents and had hidden the truth from me for months. On the other hand, I truly loved her, and I could see that her feelings had become real over time as well.
At that moment, I faced a painful choice: forgive Laura and try to start over, or walk away forever because a relationship built on revenge and deception might be impossible to repair.
What would you have done in my place? Could you forgive someone if you discovered that they had only gotten close to you in the beginning to take revenge on your family?
