I had an old, dusty shoe rack that had been sitting unused for quite some time. Rather than throwing it away, I saw an opportunity to breathe new life into it by converting it into something useful.
With just a few simple adjustments, it became a practical, space-saving kitchen shelf!
Reversing the Design and Preparing the Surface
To start, I flipped the shoe rack upside down and removed the legs. This gave it a sleeker, more modern look, making it perfect for wall-mounting.
I then gave it a thorough cleaning and lightly sanded the surface to smooth out any imperfections. Since I wanted a fresh and airy finish, I decided not to keep the original plywood texture.
Adding Support and a Fresh Coat of Paint
For added durability, I found a sturdy wooden dowel in the garage, cut it to the required size, and drilled holes into the shelf to secure it properly.
Before applying paint, I made sure to wipe off any dust and grease. I then used a glossy white acrylic enamel for the first coat. This paint not only provides a smooth finish but also eliminates the need for a separate topcoat.
