😲 After a hard day at work I was literally dragging myself home. I only wanted one thing — to kick off my shoes, flop onto the couch and disconnect from the world for at least a minute. But right at the door a strange discovery was waiting for me, which immediately threw me off.
As I habitually pulled out my keys, my eyes caught something unusual: a small coin stuck in the lock. So tiny it would have been easy to miss. But I live alone, and I know for sure — I didn’t put it there.
At first I smirked, thinking someone had played a silly prank. But then an alarming thought flashed through my mind: what if it wasn’t a prank at all?..
My instinct kicked in immediately — I pulled my hand away from the door and called the police. While I waited, I frantically googled, and what I found made my blood run cold. 😱

It turns out this is an old trick used by burglars.
In the gap near the lock they insert a coin or a piece of plastic. The trap is simple: if the door is opened, the item falls. But if it stays there for several days — it means the residents are absent, and the apartment becomes an ideal target.
How to protect yourself?
– Check the lock and the area around the door even in “quiet” neighborhoods.
– If you’re leaving for a long time, ask a neighbor to watch the apartment.
– Install a surveillance camera or at least a fake alarm.
– Pay attention to strange little details: papers, coins, unexplained marks.
– And most importantly — inspect your lock today.
