When Sofia turned twenty-one, her life had already been decided by other people. After her father’s death, the family was drowning in debt, and creditors came to their home almost every day.
Salvation came unexpectedly: one of the wealthiest men in the area offered to pay off all their debts in exchange for her hand in marriage.

An elderly woman in a black dress stood before her, with two guards behind her. But what shocked the girl most was the expression on their faces — they were not looking at the old man with respect, but with fear.

Sofia understood nothing. Her eyes moved from the woman to her husband, who had suddenly stopped smiling.

The woman slowly approached her and handed her an old folder filled with documents.

It turned out that the true owner of the fortune had died many years earlier. All this time, his younger brother had been living under his identity, concealing the deception in order to claim the inheritance.
