When Emilia turned the key in the lock, a chill ran through her body: there shouldn’t have been anyone in the apartment, but suspicious sounds were coming from deep inside 😱 😱

😱 When Emilia turned the key in the lock, a shiver ran through her: the apartment was supposed to be empty. She had left work earlier than usual today, and on Fridays Michael almost always stayed late. But now, loud and inexplicably cheerful music was coming from deep within the apartment — completely out of place and alarming. Everything looked suspicious.

Without taking off her shoes and coat, Emilia cautiously stepped inside and quietly headed toward the living room. There, she was met with a scene that made her heart pound in her temples and took her breath away: Michael was comfortably settled in the armchair, laughing merrily as if everything was perfectly normal.

They had been living together for nearly a year and a half. Before that, they had a calm, measured relationship — Emilia always calculated everything carefully, never liked to take risks or lose control.

But now something inside her snapped. Everything was screaming: something was wrong. Why was her husband home? Why hadn’t he told her he’d be back early? Her suspicions were confirmed when her husband stood before her and said something that made Emilia turn pale…

— Michael? — she called out over the music.

He turned and smiled:

— Already home? Come, let’s dance!

He pulled her close and spun her to the rhythm. For a few minutes, Emilia allowed herself to forget everything. But soon the music stopped.

— What’s for dinner? — he asked casually.

— Pasta. I didn’t have the energy to cook, — Emilia admitted.

— That’ll do, — he replied without complaint.

As she changed clothes, she asked:

— Why are you home so early?

— I took sick leave, — Michael answered casually.

Emilia tensed up:

— Seriously? What happened?

He smirked, lifted his shirt, and showed a bandage on his back:

— No big deal. Just decided to rest a bit. The doctor gave me a couple of months off. An unscheduled vacation!

Two weeks passed. Michael was indeed “resting” — not helping around the house, disappearing all day, and demanding attention and food in the evenings.

One evening he said:

— Listen, I need money.

Emilia looked at him in surprise:

— What money?

— You know, I’m on leave, no money coming in. Hope you can help. We’re partners, right?

— But we have separate accounts…

— So what? Are you really stingy with your man? I literally need ten thousand for gas and small expenses.

Emilia sighed heavily. She had to dip into her savings. Didn’t want to borrow from friends. She gathered the needed amount but watched nervously as the mortgage payment date approached.

A month flew by, and Michael still wasn’t working. Meanwhile, his demands only grew:

— Where’s the meat? Where are the fruits? I can’t eat this chicken offal every day!

Emilia tried her best, but the finances were falling apart. One day, scrolling through her banking app, she thought: “We’re heading for disaster. And he doesn’t even notice.”

Deciding to confront him, she headed to the living room. But as she approached, she heard Michael’s voice on the phone:

— Polina, don’t worry, I’ll send you fifty. You know I wouldn’t spare anything for you.

Emilia froze. Who was Polina?

When he ended the call, she stepped in.

— Michael, who is Polina?

— A girl. I’m meeting her today, — he answered calmly.

— Are you cheating on me?

— We’re not married. I’m a free man. I live with you because it’s better for you — a man in the house.

— Pack your things and leave! — Emilia growled.

— Are you sure? Tomorrow I’ll find a new one. And who are you without me? Run down, in debt, miserable…

— Anyone is better than you! — she shouted. — Get out of my house!

Half an hour later, he was already standing at the door with a suitcase:

— Last chance — should I stay?

Emilia silently slammed the door in his face. Then she immediately called a locksmith to change the locks.

The first days she jumped at every doorbell. She ate pasta and paid off debts. But she held on. The salary came in, the mortgage was paid. For the first time in a long while, Emilia felt relief.

She promised herself: never again would she trust men like Michael.

He disappeared — as if he never existed in her life. Only memories remained. And a lesson.
