That’s exactly what Katie and Michael Krebs did. Their tiny house isn’t just another DIY project; it’s a warm and luxurious haven that many only dream about.
More than just an alternative home, it’s a heartfelt tribute to Michael’s grandparents, who once owned the barn.
After renting for 7 years, the couple chose to restore the barn and live there temporarily, saving money while staying close to family memories.
Built in the 1980s, the barn was in rough shape — faded paint, no plumbing, faulty wiring, and just 280 square feet to work with.
But Katie saw potential where others might have seen only a pile of old wood. Her love for tiny homes inspired the transformation.
With a modest budget of $16,000, they rolled up their sleeves and did most of the work themselves — recycling wood, repurposing the barn door, and using clever techniques to cut costs.
