Things began to disappear from my mother’s house — first small items, then valuables and money. When I realized what was happening in her home, I was seized by real horror. 😨😵
My mother lives alone in a village, and recently things started disappearing from her house — first small items that I blamed on her forgetfulness.
Then more significant things vanished: jewelry, money, an envelope with my transfers. My heart tightened at the thought: “What is happening in her house?”
One day I decided to come without warning. The door opened, and an unpleasant chill greeted me: Mom was sitting on a chair with an empty gaze, and there wasn’t a single crumb of food on the table.
“Where is your pension? Where did the money I sent go?” — I asked, trying to hide the tremble in my voice.
She was on the verge of tears: “I put everything in a box… but it’s gone…”
I searched the entire house, but there was no trace. This was no longer forgetfulness — all her savings had disappeared.
I decided to stay the night at Mom’s to understand what was happening in her house, but it was important that no one knew about it.
I met with several neighbors, said that I had just stopped by and would leave soon, that I had left money for Mom and asked them to keep an eye on her.
But instead of leaving, I stayed the night. What happened in the darkness shook me to my core — I was ready for anything, just not for that.
Continuation in the first comment.👇👇
In the evening, one of the neighbors secretly came and took the box, thinking there was still money inside. He even called the police and left.
The neighbor was not involved in what you might think — he simply took small items, taking advantage of the moment.
But the real shock came in the morning: Mom behaved as if nothing had happened during the night. When I told her about it, she was genuinely surprised.
That’s when I understood that it was neither malice nor coincidence — Mom had truly begun to develop serious memory problems.
Later it turned out that she suffers from dementia and that her sclerosis is progressing.
I hadn’t noticed it before, since I lived far away, but the neighbors had long observed the changes and sometimes took advantage of the situation by taking various things from the house.
The situation became dangerous and alarming. Even though Mom didn’t want to leave her home, I convinced her to move in with me.
Here I will be able to calmly take care of her, ensure her safety, and be by her side whenever she needs it.
Now I know: sometimes even small suspicions hide a much more serious truth.
