The director arrogantly humiliated an ordinary technician, believing that “not everyone is meant to strive for something more.” But just a few hours later, she bitterly regretted her words, because the fate of both herself and the entire company unexpectedly ended up in the hands of that very man. 😲
Victoria was used to thinking of herself as someone who deserved the best things in life. So when she saw a technician in a blue work uniform standing in front of her, she merely looked at him with contempt and said coldly:
— I think not everyone is meant to strive for something more.
The man, whose name was Lucas, said nothing. He calmly inspected the equipment, fixed the problem, and left without getting into an argument with her.
Victoria quickly forgot about the encounter. But just a few hours later, she had to rush to an important negotiation. Her company was in a difficult position, and without a major investor, the business could lose millions.
She entered the meeting room, sat down at the table, and looked up at the man who was supposed to make the final decision.
Victoria was stunned.
Sitting across from her was the very same technician.
Except now he was wearing an expensive suit, and a folder of documents lay in front of him. Lucas turned out to be the investor whose decision would determine the future of her entire company.
— I… didn’t know who you were, Victoria said quietly.
Lucas looked at her calmly.
— And that was exactly the problem.
He closed the contract folder, paused for a moment, and asked a question that made Victoria turn pale.
👇 The continuation — in the first comment 👇
— If you treat someone who comes to help you this way, how do you treat your employees when no one is watching?
Victoria lowered her eyes. She immediately understood what he was referring to and remembered the words she had spoken just a few hours earlier.
Lucas continued:
— It was important for me to see more than your presentation and the impressive numbers in your reports. I wanted to understand what kind of person I was about to make a deal with. Today, I got my answer.
Silence filled the room. For the first time in a long while, Victoria felt that she had nothing left with which to defend her position.
She stood up and sincerely apologized not only to Lucas but also to her employees, whom she had often judged solely by their position and appearance.
— I was wrong. I too often forgot that a position doesn’t make a person better than others.
Lucas remained silent for a few seconds, then opened the folder again.
— That is exactly what I wanted to hear from you.
He did not cancel the deal. However, he set one condition: Victoria had to change her attitude toward the people within the company and personally ensure that respect became part of the way she worked, rather than just empty words.
Over the next few months, many things changed within the company. Employees began expressing their opinions more often, while Victoria learned to listen to the person first and only then evaluate them based on their position.
Later, she admitted to Lucas that the incident had become the most expensive lesson of her life.
Because sometimes the person we consider insignificant turns out to be the very one capable of changing our entire life. 😲
