🧐 Mystery on the Market Stall: we found these strange little figures at a Chinese market. You’ll be stunned when you find out what they are.
During a recent trip to China with a friend, we decided to check out one of the local street markets — the kind that’s loud, colorful, and packed with fascinating things you can’t take your eyes off.
Among piles of traditional souvenirs, ceramics, amulets, and tableware, our eyes suddenly landed on some strange, almost surreal-looking figurines. 😵
🤔They looked like miniature creatures — part animal, part fantasy character — stretched in the middle, with holes and odd, unreadable faces.
At first, we thought they were some kind of decoration or maybe folk toys. We turned them over in our hands, joking that they were “Asian puzzles” or maybe finger exercisers.
Curiosity got the best of us, and we asked the vendor what they actually were. His answer left us speechless… 😲

Turns out, they were… chopstick holders! Yes, those strange little things serve a practical purpose. When the chopsticks are still packaged, you slide them through the long hole.
And when you’re using them, instead of placing them directly on the table, you rest them in the side hole — keeping them elevated and clean.
Such a simple idea, but designed in such a clever and elegant way! We were so impressed, we bought several to take home.
One of them still sits on my shelf — a reminder of the day a simple market turned into a moment of discovery.
Who would’ve thought that such a tiny object could stir up so many emotions?
