Every morning, he left for work at around seven-thirty, and in the evening, he almost always came home at the same time.
Six months ago, after years of waiting, we finally had twins. Daniel turned out to be an incredibly caring father and often got up with the babies at night so that I could get at least a little rest.
We knew each other’s passwords, shared bank accounts, and always told each other where we were. I was certain there were no things left unsaid between us, and certainly no serious secrets.
That was why the call from the hospital came as such a shock. They told me that another car had hit Daniel’s vehicle and that he had been taken in for examination. I quickly left the babies with our neighbor and rushed there, barely able to control the trembling in my hands.
The doctor met me and immediately tried to calm me down. Daniel had suffered a mild concussion and a wrist injury, but his life was not in danger. He was kept under observation in a private room.
Before I could see my husband, a nurse approached me. She handed me a transparent bag containing the belongings they had found on him after the accident.
I automatically looked inside. His wallet, silver wedding ring, broken phone, and car keys were all there.
