My 64-year-old husband told me he was going to a business meeting, but two hours later, I saw him in a swimming pool with a young blonde woman. I was just about to walk over and make a scene when a man suddenly approached the pool and made my husband turn pale with a single question … 😱

Richard and I had been together for forty-two years. I was sixty years old, and we had two grown-up children and three grandchildren. I thought that after so many years of marriage, nothing could destroy our family.

But over the past few months, my husband had become a completely different person. He had started buying expensive clothes, joined a gym, and even dyed his gray hair. On top of that, he never let his phone out of his hands.

“Richard, is there someone else?” I asked him one day.

He burst out laughing.

“Elizabeth, when was the last time you looked at yourself in the mirror? Who would want me at my age?”

His words hurt, but I kept quiet.

On Saturday morning, my husband put on a new shirt and announced that he was going to an important meeting with investors.

After he left, my friend Diana called and suggested that we visit a club with a swimming pool outside the city. I agreed because I needed to take my mind off things for a while.

We were sitting under a sun umbrella when Diana suddenly stopped talking and stared at something behind me.

“Elizabeth … Isn’t that your Richard?”

I turned around and felt my heart painfully tighten.

In the middle of the pool, my husband was lying on a large striped inflatable mattress. Beside him was a young blonde woman wearing a red swimsuit. She was stroking his chest, and he was looking at her with a tenderness I hadn’t seen from him in years.

I stood up, ready to approach them.

But at that moment, a tall man wearing a white shirt appeared beside the pool. When he saw the couple, he stopped abruptly and then walked straight to the edge of the water.

“Richard?!” he shouted. “Do you even realize who you’ve gotten involved with?!”

My husband took off his sunglasses. His smile disappeared instantly.

And when the stranger said the young blonde woman’s name and explained who she was to him, I realized that this story would not end with an ordinary divorce …

My 64-year-old husband told me he was going to a business meeting, but two hours later, I saw him in a swimming pool with a young blonde woman

“Sofia!” the man shouted. “Get out of the pool immediately!”

The young woman spun around. When she saw him, she turned pale and nearly dropped her glass.

“Daniel? What are you doing here?!”

“Me?! You’d better explain what you’re doing with my father-in-law!”

My knees gave way. I grabbed the back of a sun lounger to keep myself from falling.

Daniel was married to our daughter, Christina. We had known each other for almost fifteen years. Yet I had never seen the young woman beside Richard before.

“What father-in-law?” the blonde asked in confusion.

“Richard is my wife’s father!” Daniel shouted. “And you know perfectly well that I’m married!”

This time, my husband turned pale.

It turned out that Sofia worked as a secretary at Daniel’s company. Six months earlier, they had begun an affair. Daniel had promised her he would get divorced, but he kept putting off the conversation with his wife.

Two months earlier, Sofia had met Richard at a company party. He had introduced himself as a divorced businessman and started courting her.

Neither man suspected that he was seeing the same woman.

“So you’ve been cheating on my daughter?!” I finally said.

Daniel turned around. Only then did he notice me.

“Elizabeth … You’re here?”

“Yes. And it seems I’ve arrived at exactly the right moment.”

Richard climbed out of the pool and hurried toward me.

“Darling, please listen! This is just a misunderstanding!”

My 64-year-old husband told me he was going to a business meeting, but two hours later, I saw him in a swimming pool with a young blonde woman

I looked at him. Standing before me was the man I had shared forty-two years of my life with. The man for whom I had once given up a good job, cared for his sick mother, and helped build his business.

“A misunderstanding?” I repeated. “You’ve been dating a girl who could be your granddaughter for two months, and you call that a misunderstanding?”

He lowered his eyes.

“I didn’t want to lose you.”

“But you were willing to humiliate me?”

Richard said nothing.

Meanwhile, Daniel was trying to persuade Sofia to leave with him. But the young woman suddenly burst out laughing.

“You’re both just as bad as each other! One promised to leave his wife, while the other told me he’d been divorced for years. And now you’re pretending this is all my fault!”

She grabbed her bag and walked away.

I took out my phone and called my daughter.

“Christina, sweetheart, are you home right now?”

“Yes, Mom. What’s wrong?”

“I need to tell you something. But please, sit down first.”

Daniel rushed toward me.

“Elizabeth, please don’t! We have a child! You’ll destroy our family!”

I looked him straight in the eyes.

“No, Daniel. You destroyed your own family.”

That evening, my daughter and I sat in the kitchen for a long time. Christina was crying while I held her hand. For the first time in many years, I couldn’t find the words to comfort my own child. After all, we were both experiencing the same betrayal.

Richard came home late that night. He brought flowers, knelt in front of me, and begged me to give him one last chance.

“Elizabeth, you can’t just throw away forty-two years!”

“I’m not throwing them away, Richard. I’ll remember all the good moments. But I don’t want to spend the years I have left beside a man I no longer trust.”

A week later, I filed for divorce.

Christina also decided to leave Daniel. He begged her for forgiveness for a long time, but my daughter told him she would never allow him to deceive her again.

Eight months passed.

Christina and I rented a small cottage by the sea and, for the first time in many years, went on vacation together, just the two of us, taking my youngest grandchild with us.

One evening, my daughter hugged me and said quietly:

“Mom, do you know what I was most afraid of? That you would forgive Dad and tell me to put up with everything for the sake of the family.”

I held her close.

“For forty-two years, I tried to save our marriage, sweetheart. But now I understand something: a family isn’t held together by the number of years people spend together, but by the way they treat each other.”

And when Richard called again and asked me to come back, for the first time, I didn’t even feel any pain.

I simply replied:

“Richard, you had an entire lifetime to appreciate me. Now let me live the rest of mine in peace.”
