From Forgotten Flat to Dream Home: How One Woman Transformed an “Ugly” Apartment Into a Design Masterpiece
When I told people I was buying this run-down, gloomy apartment, they looked at me like I’d lost my mind! 😂👎 Just a single woman with a big dream and an even bigger renovation plan — and no one saw this coming!👇
😉 You should have seen their faces when I finally revealed the finished space — it’s all in the article linked in the first comment!👇
Meet our story’s star — a talented designer with a clear vision of what her dream home should feel like: perfect location, inspiring view, and timeless style.
So when she stumbled upon a worn-out apartment in a neglected building, she didn’t see what it was — she saw what it could become.
She began by stripping the apartment down to its bare bones, getting rid of everything old and outdated.
The entryway was refreshed with soft tiles featuring subtle geometric shapes. The walls? A deep terracotta hue that gave the space instant warmth and elegance.
On one side of the door, she added a cozy bench with wall hooks and a shelf above — a functional yet stylish touch. Opposite that, a standing mirror brought balance and brightness.
In a bold redesign move, the kitchen entrance was rerouted from the hallway to open directly into the living room. Now the two areas flow together through a wide, open arch. She painted the kitchen walls in a calming green, using eye-catching patterned tiles for the floor.
Because the kitchen had a few unusual architectural quirks, she commissioned a custom-made corner unit.
The cabinets, painted a rich burnt orange, had drawers of varying depths — practical and beautiful. Built-in appliances were cleverly integrated into tall pencil-style cabinets.
When guests come over, the dining set can easily be shifted into the living room for a more spacious setup. True to her style, she filled the home with carefully chosen vintage pieces that give the space heart and history.
The master bedroom, though quite compact, feels serene and inviting. The walls are painted a soft green, with the bed at the center, and a comfy armchair and dresser arranged across from it.
She turned the spare room into a dual-purpose home office and guest room — complete with bookshelves, a stylish desk, and a bright yellow sofa bed that folds out for overnight stays.
Thanks to smart renovation choices, the bathroom is now slightly larger.
She added a generous utility closet with a washer, laid green tiles on the floor, and combined vibrant orange tiling with yellow water-resistant paint for the walls — creating a playful and modern aesthetic.
