Every penny I earn I carefully save to buy a home and prepare for my retirement

It’s been three years now since I started living and working abroad. Every penny I earn, I carefully save to buy a home and prepare for my retirement 👵 🏠.

My children, instead of supporting me, constantly demand all of my savings 💸.

📞 Not long ago, my daughter called me and said something so hurtful that I cried for hours 😭.

They believe that it’s now my responsibility to support them, just because their father always provided for them.

Back then, I was married to a man who had a good income. Thanks to him, I never experienced financial hardship.

He ran a small car business – he bought cars, repaired them, and sold them. I stayed at home and took care of our children.

Our children never lacked anything. They got everything they wanted, often without even asking.

My husband bought them apartments, threw grand weddings, paid for beach vacations, and gave them the latest phones. They got used to having everything handed to them.

They grew up in comfort, and now they expect the same from me. At least they respected their father while he was alive.

As for me, they treated me like a servant – expecting me to cook, wash their clothes, clean up after them… without lifting a finger themselves.

After Mykhailo passed away, they rushed to claim their inheritance. Without remorse, they kicked me out of the family home and sold it.

— That house isn’t really yours, Dad paid for it! Why would you need such a big house? — they said.

They spent the money on themselves and bought cars. A friend, seeing my situation, took me in and encouraged me to go abroad for work. So I did.

Since then, I’ve been living in Italy. I take care of an elderly woman and save every euro I can. I’ve met many Ukrainian women here, some even from my hometown.

The job is honest, life is simple, and slowly I am rebuilding my future.

I’ve never gone back home, not even for the holidays. Why should I? I no longer have a home there.

A few days ago, my son called. He failed to keep his father’s business going and now he’s in debt.

Since I work abroad, he assumes I have enough money to bail him out.

— Dad always helped us, you never did! The least you could do is make up for it now! — he shouted at me on the phone.

I calmly replied:

— I owe you nothing. Children are supposed to care for their parents, not the other way around. You’ve never cared about me, so now I’ll care for myself.

Since that call, I haven’t heard from them. It hurts to know my children have become so selfish and ungrateful.

Maybe one day they’ll understand their mistake. Until then, I keep working hard to secure my old age. I can only rely on myself.

Tell me, am I wrong?
