Larisa, a woman passionate about giving old furniture a new lease on life, decided to tackle her very first furniture makeover. She started with a chair that had seen better days—one that had been thoroughly scratched by her cat—and transformed it into a sleek and modern piece.
What once was a shabby, dilapidated chair was reborn with an elegant, tufted seat that radiated charm and sophistication.
Here’s how Larisa did it, step by step:
-
Planning the Tufted Design: Larisa began by measuring and marking the plywood seat to create a clean, tufted pattern that would give the chair a sophisticated look.
-
Sanding and Priming: She carefully sanded the chair frame to remove any old paint and rough spots. After cleaning off the dust, a coat of primer was applied, followed by gentle smoothing with fine-grit sandpaper to ensure a flawless finish.
-
Spray Painting: With the frame ready, Larisa spray-painted it to give it a smooth and even coating that would complement the new design.
-
Creating the Plush Seat: For the seat, Larisa added a foam layer and a special mesh to mark spaces where buttons would be placed, giving the chair its plush, tufted look.
-
Adding the Buttons: She carefully secured the fabric and added the buttons, achieving that iconic tufted design. Decorative upholstery tacks were added along the edges to enhance the elegance of the piece.
-
Decorative Touch for the Back: The back of the chair was then adorned with a beautiful decorative touch made from baked polymer clay.
Using molds, Larisa shaped intricate patterns and glued them onto the frame with epoxy, finishing it off with acrylic paint.
And just like that, the chair was completely transformed!
But before Larisa could enjoy her newly revamped chair, her cat couldn’t resist the comfort and beauty of the seat. It became the cat’s favorite spot immediately! 🐱 In the end, Larisa decided to let her feline friend keep it, promising to create another one for herself.
What a jaw-dropping makeover! ✨
