Dismantling the Chair

The initial step was to remove the old, worn upholstery and peel away the outdated fabric.

To make the task easier, I opted for a utility knife, which worked wonders on the curved areas, generating much less dust compared to a power sander.

Once the fabric was stripped away, I smoothed out the frame using a sanding disc to achieve a polished finish.

Reinforcing and Refinishing the Structure

To ensure the chair was sturdy again, I glued any loose joints. After that, I applied two coats of a mixture of oil and hard wax, allowing each layer to dry for a full day.

This not only safeguarded the wood but also enhanced its appearance with a refreshed look.

Updating the Upholstery for a Fresh Appearance

Next, I turned my attention to the cushioned sections. I found a durable fabric that suited the size of the seat and cut it accordingly.
For the underside, I repurposed a piece of half-linen from my fabric stash and carefully secured it in place. The original straps and springs were still in great condition, so I decided to keep them.

To finish off the backrest, I first added a layer of padding and then stitched the fabric cover directly onto the chair for a snug fit. The bottom edge of the cover was hand-sewn to ensure a clean finish.

A New Life for the Chair

After all the hard work, the chair looks as good as new—solid, stylish, and a perfect complement to the space. This simple restoration has saved it from being discarded, and now it enjoys a whole new life!
