Victor turned the envelope over and checked it again, as if hoping he had made a mistake. But inside there were only photographs, several documents, and a small USB drive.
He quickly inserted the drive into his laptop. Files appeared on the screen that left him breathless. They contained records of secret deals, transfers of enormous sums of money, and documents proving that several of his trusted associates had been deceiving the company for years and hiding money.
— Where did you get this? Victor asked sharply.
Leo shook his head.
— I don’t know anything about it. I just found the envelope and decided to return it.
Victor stared at the boy for a long moment. He realized that if Leo had wanted to make money, he could easily have sold the information to the company’s competitors. Instead, the boy had returned everything without even knowing what he was holding.
That same evening, Victor handed the documents over to the police. The investigation confirmed the fraud, and those responsible were soon arrested.
But Victor did not forget Leo. When he learned about his mother’s illness, he paid for her treatment and helped them rent a small apartment. Later, he offered the boy the opportunity to continue his education and promised to pay for his schooling.
