The courageous girl climbed up a giant tree and didn’t come down for two years: here’s why

On December 10, the 23-year-old Julia climbed a 55-meter tall tree. There was a crowd around, and skeptics believed that the girl would fall the next day.

They were wrong: Julia Hill spent the next two years on the tree. The crowd around the tree was mainly composed of angry loggers.

Julia, in the company of environmental activists (“the greens”), was protesting against the logging of unique forests.

A team with bulldozers and axes approached a gigantic mammoth tree, which was over 500 years old and had reached a height of 60 meters. Julia couldn’t bear to see such a tree destroyed.

Before anyone could react, Julia had climbed almost to the top of the giant tree.

The night passed, and in the morning, like-minded people helped her build a real cabin at a height of 50 meters.

The sturdy branches of the mammoth tree could support an entire house. Julia kept in touch with the outside world through her group, and they brought her food and everything she needed. But the girl had to endure a lot: storms, cold winters, rain, and attempts to attack the tree. Gradually, the whole country learned about the young rebel.

Felling trees in that area turned out to be impossible, and even the president drew attention to the situation.

The logging company’s management made concessions: Julia not only saved her tree but also a parcel of relic forest with a diameter of 100 meters.

In total, she spent even more than two years on the tree. Julia Hill didn’t give up on this cause.

Today, she holds up to 250 shows per year all over the world and is fully dedicated to nature protection.
