Of course, there are many examples of furniture restoration on the internet, but for my brother and me, this rocking chair is associated with our grandfather. 🥰 We weren’t fortunate enough to grow up with our parents, and after their loss, our grandfather became the only person who took us under his wing and raised us.
A few years ago, he too left us, and the rocking chair remained the only place where we felt his warmth and care, as if he was still with us. 🛠 We spent a long time thinking about how to renew this chair, but unfortunately, we didn’t manage to do it while he was alive, so that he could also enjoy the fruits of our work. 😮
When we finally started the restoration, it wasn’t just about updating an old chair—it was a way to keep a piece of our grandfather with us. The full material and “before” and “after” photos can be found in the first comment. 🪑👇👇
We replaced the old upholstery, which was torn and dirty, with a light gray fabric with a subtle pattern, and also renovated the wooden frame and legs, painting them in a stylish dark brown color that perfectly matched the new look of the chair.
We chose materials and shades that reflect the warmth and comfort that always existed in our grandfather’s home.
This process became a sort of therapy for us, an opportunity to process the loss and express our love for a person who was so important in our lives.
We would love for you to also share your opinion on how furniture restoration can be not just a repair, but a way to preserve memories and continue traditions.
