He threw his blind and helpless brother into the river to take the entire inheritance, believing everyone would think it was a tragic accident. But he had no idea how his terrible act would end… 😱
Mark held his brother tightly against his chest and carefully moved toward the edge of the cliff. Below, the spring river roared, heavy and muddy from the melting snow, crashing into the dark rocks with white foam.
— Be careful, Mark… I can hear the water so close, — Alex said quietly.
— Don’t be afraid. I’m holding you, — Mark replied, looking away.
Alex had become blind after an accident several years earlier. Since then, he had rarely left the house alone and trusted his older brother completely. That morning, Mark had told him he would take him to an old family place by the river. Apparently, their father had often brought them there in the past.
But the real reason was hidden in Mark’s inner pocket — a copy of the will that the notary had read just three days earlier.
Their father had left the house, the land, and almost all of his savings to Alex.
Mark, who was used to expensive watches, restaurants, and a life built around appearances, had received only a small share. In three days, his resentment had turned into cold calculation.
He had chosen the place in advance. In spring, the current became so strong there that it could carry a person away in a matter of seconds. And if a blind man slipped from a wet rock, who would suspect foul play?
Mark helped his brother to his feet and froze for a moment.
Suddenly, Alex found his hand and squeezed his fingers.
— You know, I asked the notary to change something after all. I wanted to surprise you.
Mark’s face barely twitched.
— Change what?
Alex smiled, completely unaware.
A few seconds later, a scream echoed over the river.
Mark stood at the very edge, staring down and breathing heavily. Then he took out his phone, preparing to call for help.
— Hello, please help me! My brother fell into the river!
After saying that, Mark moved the phone away from his ear and calmly watched his brother desperately struggle against the waves as the violent current carried him farther and farther away. Two hours later, Mark was already sitting in the rescuers’ vehicle, pretending to be deeply shocked. He repeated the same story several times: Alex had slipped on a wet rock, Mark had tried to hold him, but he hadn’t been able to save him in time.
His brother’s body was never found.
A week later, Mark went to see the notary. He was certain that all of his father’s property would now pass to him. But the notary silently placed a document in front of him.
— I’m afraid you’ve misunderstood the terms of the will.
It turned out that Alex really had asked for a change. If anything happened to him before he officially inherited the estate, the house, the land, and the money would not go to Mark, but to a charitable foundation for blind people.
Mark went pale. He had betrayed his brother for a fortune that he would now never receive.
But that was not all.
Three days later, police officers knocked on the door of his house. A fisherman who had been farther downstream had managed to pull Alex out of the water. He was severely hypothermic, but alive.
When Alex regained consciousness, he initially refused to believe that his brother had really thrown him into the river. However, he remembered Mark’s final touch — it had not been an attempt to hold him back, but a powerful push from behind.
During questioning, Mark continued to insist that it had been an accident until he was told the most important thing: Alex had survived and had already given his statement.
Mark lowered his head. For the first time since everything had begun, his confidence disappeared.
Alex never saw him again. He inherited the estate and kept his promise: he donated part of the money to a support center for blind people.
And Mark lost exactly what he had considered his prize: the money, his freedom, and the only person who, until the very last second, had called him brother.
