To save my family from debt, I agreed to marry a mafia boss confined to a wheelchair, believing it was just an ordinary deal. But I could never have imagined what nightmare awaited me on my wedding night… 😱😱
My hand was trembling as I placed the final signature on the marriage contract.
Anna Bennett.
I wrote my name carefully, trying not to show anyone how intense the fear raging inside me truly was.
The family lawyer silently took the documents, placed them into a dark leather folder, and calmly said:
— The car is already waiting.
I lingered at the door of my small apartment and looked around one last time. The old sofa, the cracked walls, the noisy heater, and the photograph of my mother with my younger brother on the shelf — suddenly, all of it seemed priceless.
It was for them that I had agreed to this marriage.
My family was drowning in debt, and the only condition for paying it off was my marriage to a man feared even by those who had never met him.
I left the photograph in its place.
Some memories cannot be taken with you to a place where your own life may never belong to you again.
A black car with tinted windows was waiting outside the building. The entire journey, I sat silently, watching the familiar streets disappear behind the glass. With every mile, I felt myself leaving the old Anna farther and farther behind.
After some time, enormous gates appeared before us.
Beyond them stood the Spencer family estate — dark, majestic, and more like a fortress than a home.
When I was led inside, I saw endless corridors, marble floors, and a cold silence that weighed heavier than any threat.
Finally, the doors to one of the rooms opened.
A man in a wheelchair was sitting by the fireplace. He was wearing a perfectly tailored black suit, and his gaze was so confident that it seemed the entire house obeyed him.
This was my new husband — the man I was supposed to fear. But I did not yet know that I should have been afraid of something completely different from what I expected.
— Come closer, Anna, — he said quietly.
I took several steps forward, feeling my heart begin to beat faster. He looked at me carefully, as if trying to understand who I truly was.
Then he spoke the words that turned my fear into absolute terror — at that moment, I realized what kind of nightmare I would face on my wedding night… 😨😬

When the bedroom doors closed, I finally allowed myself to breathe. All this time, I had convinced myself that the marriage would only be a formality. I thought that a man in a wheelchair simply needed a wife to fulfill some family tradition or the conditions of a deal.
But soon, I heard his voice behind me:
— You thought this marriage was fake, didn’t you?
I slowly turned around.
— Isn’t it?
The man looked at me carefully and shook his head.
— No, Anna. I want a normal family life. Respect, trust, and a real relationship between husband and wife.
My hands went cold.
— But… you’re in a wheelchair, — I blurted out before I could think. — I was certain this marriage was only needed on paper.
His gaze immediately became colder.
— And that is why you agreed?
I looked away.
— Yes. I thought…
For several seconds, he remained silent.
— You were wrong, Anna.
Those words made everything inside me tighten. At that moment, I was truly afraid.
The entire way here, I had convinced myself that the worst was already behind me. That I was marrying a man who physically would not be able to demand something from me that I was not ready for.
But reality turned out to be completely different.
— Don’t worry, — he added unexpectedly in a softer voice. — I am not going to force you to love me. But I will take care of you and protect you, whether you like it or not.
At the time, his words felt like a threat.
However, days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months.
And gradually, I began to notice what I had stubbornly refused to see before.
He solved my family’s problems before I even had the chance to learn about them. He remembered every little detail I had casually mentioned during a conversation.
One day, I caught myself realizing that I no longer flinched at the sound of his voice.
Then I understood something else: he had become the only man beside whom I felt safe.
And I felt ashamed of the thought that once seemed so logical: “But you’re in a wheelchair…”
Because the strongest person in my life turned out to be him.
