In the Netherlands, there is a heavenly place, little Venice which appears before people like a fairy tale.
As in the famous Italian city, in this village too, canals replace streets.
This village of bridges and canals located in the northern regions of the Netherlands is called Giethoorn. This divine land of bridges and water has no route to solid earth.
The history of this picturesque village takes us back to the 13th century.

The name of the village (Giethoorn means goat’s horn) is linked to a flood in the 10th century, due to which many horns were found in the surroundings, in the marsh.
The place was populated thanks to the turbe which was discovered here and used for centuries.
The lakes in the region are the result of the removal of peat, in its place there appeared holes which were filled with water.
Giethoorn is made up of several islands which are linked by bridges and canals.
And on its islets there are houses from which people travel in small boats. All the inhabitants of the village have canoes.

No noise from motor vehicles. In this peaceful place, you can only hear the quacking of a duck or the noises made by other birds.
The village islets are covered with grass, trees and other plants. All these islands are connected by bridges. In Giethoorn 176 bridges were built.
In winter, you can walk on the icy canals and go sledding. If anyone visits the village, they must leave their car nearby.
The inhabitants of Giethoorn cannot imagine their life without their native canal village, which is a splendid corner of the planet.
