đšđ” They tried to drag me out of the classroom by force just because I am the new Black student and the only mulatto. But what happened next shocked everyone.
There was a tense silence in the classroom when I walked in and took my seat by the window.
I was used to the stares â being the only mulatto in the school meant always feeling othersâ attention on me. But that day the atmosphere was different, as if a storm was crackling in the air.
He stood up abruptly, his chair screeching across the floor. The schoolâs most feared bully. Tall, rough, with fists that were always looking for an excuse.
His eyes narrowed, and suddenly he stepped toward me. He grabbed my arm, yanked it, trying to push me out of the classroom, and shouted: âYou have no right to sit here!â
My classmates fell silent, pretending it had nothing to do with them. No one moved. But I stayed seated. I didnât cry, didnât beg, didnât scream. I just looked straight into his eyes.

His hand squeezed my wrist so hard that I felt pain. The classroom was silent, only the squeak of his chair still echoed in my ears. No one stood up, no one intervened â as if it wasnât happening to them.
I lifted my head and calmly said: âLet go.â My voice sounded firmer than I expected.
He sneered and pulled harder, trying to push me toward the door. But I didnât move. I clutched the edge of the desk, and our eyes met.
A moment felt like an eternity. I saw rage in his eyes, but I sensed how the air in the classroom was changing â someone behind me whispered âenough.â Then another girl stood up, followed by another student.
I didnât expect support, but it came. Several voices rang out at once: âLeave her alone!â He recoiled, as if he had lost solid ground beneath his feet.
I straightened up and sat tall. My heart was pounding, but my face remained calm. For the first time in a long while I felt: I am not alone.
Sometimes it is precisely collective strength that can stop even the most threatening and terrifying bully.
