Belmond is an exceptional nine-year-old who doesn’t wait for his birthday for presents, cake or parties with his friends. Instead, he strives to help those who suffer from hunger.
The trip to California left an indelible mark on Belmond’s soul. It was the first time he saw homeless people, forced to live in tents on the streets, and it shocked him deeply.
His heart was filled with compassion for these people who had lost their homes to poverty, and he decided he wanted to help them.
Having discovered that there were hungry and homeless people in his own state, Belmond promised to do everything in his power to help.
Last year, instead of receiving presents for his birthday, he asked for donations of food and money to give to local hunger-fighting charities.
His initiative was so successful that he decided to double down on his efforts this year and make them even “bigger and better”.
On his ninth birthday, just before Thanksgiving, Belmond promised to “help people who have next to nothing.”
His parents, Steven and Lily Schwartz, helped him start a nonprofit called Belmond’s Wish, and their first fundraising event took place in October.
Hundreds of people participated, and thanks to their involvement, they managed to double the amount they had collected the previous year. In the end, they managed to raise $4,000 and two tons of produce.
During the week leading up to Thanksgiving Day, when food banks are under maximum pressure, Belmont was able to deliver all the money collected as well as food items to local food banks in the nearby town of Iston.
Thanks to this fourth grader, dozens of families will have food on their tables this festive season. His noble gesture brought light into the lives of those who need help, highlighting the importance of solidarity and kindness in our society.
