In an upcoming TV movie capturing the essence of the end of life, Line Renaud, the acclaimed actress, seizes the opportunity to reflect on her unwavering dedication to euthanasia.
At 94 years old, Line Renaud, known for her partnership with Dany Boon in the world of cinema, has consistently fought for the legalization of assisted dying with dignity.
Prior to her appearance in the TV movie, scheduled to be broadcast in May, Renaud penned a forum in Le Journal du Dimanche in August 2022, passionately advocating for the legalization of euthanasia.
Following this, in a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron a month later, she managed to “convince” the head of state, who assured her that progress would be made.
Renaud shared this encouraging news during an interview with RTL.
Imagining her final moments, she envisions herself lying in bed with her loyal companion, Pirate, by her side.
Renaud recounts witnessing some of her dear ones endure agonizing pain, and she is determined not to subject her loved ones to such trauma.
“I have an affinity for people and detest witnessing their suffering. It is unbearable, and that is why I will continue to fight,” Renaud expressed on the radio.
She firmly states that she is willing to go against the law if necessary, declaring that if suffering becomes unbearable, she will find a way to overcome legal restrictions.
Her unwavering commitment to her cause is resolute: “Without the law, I will die while resisting.”
While awaiting the release of the TV production, which holds a special place in her heart, Line Renaud conveys her profound love for life.
She cherishes the joys it brings and has no intention of fading away anytime soon.
Last September, the National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE) accepted the possibility of “active” assistance in dying, albeit with strict regulations, in France.
Renaud’s unwavering determination, alongside the evolving discussions surrounding euthanasia, contributes to a growing movement aimed at providing individuals with the right to a dignified end of life.
