In today’s world, people value convenience and comfort, even in rural settings where they spend time at their summer homes.
Thanks to modern advancements, essential amenities like running water, electricity, and practical bathrooms have become standard in countryside retreats. These features significantly enhance the quality of life outside the city.
When we first acquired our summer cottage a few years ago, we were met with a small shed, an old-fashioned summer kitchen, and an outdoor toilet in terrible shape. Its condition was so poor that using it was far from ideal, and we avoided it whenever possible.
Recently, as we embarked on a complete makeover of our summer property, the first thing we tackled was the outdated toilet. Rather than simply refurbishing it, my husband took the ambitious step of constructing a brand-new structure.
On top of that, he ensured that the interior was finished to a high standard, making it just as comfortable as an indoor restroom.
Though still located outside, the updated space exceeded all my expectations. Using repurposed materials, my husband single-handedly built it from the ground up. We managed to complete the project without spending extra on materials, as everything we needed was already available.
The foundation was made from wooden planks and sturdy blocks, while the roof consisted of sheet metal, which we painted ourselves. The door, crafted from plywood, was equipped with an old handle we had lying around.
Additionally, a spare sink cabinet from our house found a perfect new home in this project.
As for plumbing, we utilized a toilet and sink that had been stored in our garage after our apartment’s renovation. My husband had wisely decided to keep them rather than discard them, and that foresight paid off beautifully.
Our main house already boasts a fully equipped bathroom, offering all the necessary comforts for country living. Yet, we opted to keep the outdoor toilet as well—it not only adds charm to our property but also serves as a practical convenience for guests and visitors.
What started as an ordinary renovation turned into an opportunity to create something truly useful and unique!
