Overheating, often known as hyperthermia, is just as dangerous as hypothermia.
And the consequences of a child locked in a hot vehicle can be disastrous.
Every year, several dozen children lose their lives around the world due to parents leaving them in the car, running errands, and forgetting about them.
Or the children themselves climbing into an open car and becoming trapped.
Globally, scientists have presented solutions to this problem, but none have proven truly effective.
Lydia Denton, a 12-year-old American schoolgirl, spoke up.
The girl was shocked by the terrible numbers, and although she had never been interested in inventing before, she decided to design a device that would help prevent this problem in the future.
Together with his 14-year-old brother and 10-year-old sister, he began designing the system.
Lydia added a sensor to the child’s car seat that would activate when the seat was loaded with more than 5 lbs.
Subsequently, a sensor in the passenger compartment began to monitor the temperature and, when it reached 38.8 degrees.
A special application started sounding the alarm, sending a warning message to parents’ devices and emergency services.
Lydia received a $20,000 cash prize for her idea.
She is thrilled that her concept has the potential to become a useful resource for others and, most importantly, that it is affordable.
The device is expected to cost around $50.
