The events of this beautiful story took place 24 years ago, in Ohio, United States.
Mark and Craig Sanders who were twin brothers, met twin sisters called Darlene and Diana Nettemeyer at a bar.
The identical twins realized that this incredible meeting was not by chance, that it was destiny that had brought them together.
Immediately afterwards, the lovers got married. Craig married Diane and Mark married Darlene.
The bride and groom had the same outfits and the couples looked very similar.
The two brothers bought their houses next to each other, tore down the fence and started living as one big family.
A year later, twins were born in the family of Craig and Diane.
And they were identical twins. Generally, the chance of having twins is about 3 in 1,000, but monozygotic twins are born once in a million.
Darilyn and Mark did not have twins. But they gave birth to two girls who have an incredible resemblance. The girls had a younger brother.
These families are truly unique and thanks to them we can observe a curious scientific fact.
These two pairs have the same genes. Although in reality their children are cousins, genetically they are siblings.
Probably, we hoped to see two absolutely identical families with similar children. However, this is actually impossible.
Our appearance is the result of genes that can be inherited from ancestors.
