A city cleaner named Li Man saw an unusual bag in a trash can when she was cleaning one of the city streets in the morning.
The find was quite heavy and the cleaner decided to open it. The package contained bills worth around 150,000 yuan, which amounts to more than $21,000.
The woman thought someone had dropped the package and was very worried about it. “I have to return it to the owner,” the cleaner thought.
Li decided to take the bag to the police. It took less than two hours for the police to find the owner of the money.
It turned out the package belonged to a local businessman.
It was learned that the money was thrown away by one of the businessman’s company cleaners, mistaking them for trash.
The owner of the money was very grateful to Li Man and wanted to reward her for her honesty, offering her 20,000 yuan, more than 2,800 dollars.
This sum was equal to the annual salary of an urban cleaning agent in China. The woman decided not to accept the money because she was sure she had done the right thing.
The businessman was very surprised by the integrity of the woman who, despite her financial situation, behaved with great dignity.
The story quickly went viral on social media and Li Man was nicknamed the “noble worker”.
