Cheetahs are famous sprinters who can catch up with any prey – but not always.
BBC operators filmed a video of the life of a young family of cheetahs in Serengeti Park: a mother named Aisha brought her kids on a hunt, which was also a lesson.
Aisha made the task more difficult by choosing unfamiliar territory for her “occupation”. The weather also left much to be desired – a downpour fell on the spotted cats.
Of course, this can scare away the animals selected for capture, but on the other hand, rain can also help in hunting. Its noise drowns out all extraneous sounds, allowing cats to sneak up as close as possible, then make their famous high-speed dash.
The daughters watched their mother closely and obeyed her, but the son named Duma showed independence. He could not wait to boast of victory or to help the elders, and he rushed headlong towards the goal.
This attracted the attention of the peacefully grazing antelopes, and they managed to escape while the baby tried to keep up with them with his still short steps.
This time the family was left without lunch, but an experienced adult cat must have found something to provide for its cubs. Interestingly, cheetahs are not afraid of rain or too high temperatures.
