Most people who come to a homeless animal shelter think of taking a cute pup out of it. Such crumbs are easier to train, and they will delight new owners longer than old and exhausted animals.
The fate of most old animals is to live out their term in an orphanage without love and affection.
Such a fate was to be expected for the old dog Kangaroo. For many years he lived alone in a shelter, not losing hope of finding an owner.
Over time, he learned to greet visitors: he stood up on his hind legs and “smiled” at everyone who came in. However, visitors chose puppies, the old dog did not attract their attention.
One day a woman named Terry came to the shelter. She wanted to give a birthday present to her daughter, Sophie: the girl asked her parents for a puppy for so long that her mother’s heart could not stand it.
Together with her daughter, Terry went around all the enclosures and suddenly noticed Kangaroo. The kind and sad look of the old dog rested on the woman. Sophie walked over to the cage and the dog began fawning over her.
The mother and daughter played with the animal for a bit and then went home.
Terry was tormented by doubts: like most visitors to the shelter, she wanted to take a small puppy, but her daughter unequivocally said – I want Kangaroo. In the morning Terry and Sophie went back to the shelter. Their decision was final: we take Kangaroo home.
Once at home, the old dog changed: he became more active and mobile, constantly playing with the young owner or basking in the sun.
