This poor creature was so depressed and hopeless, spending its nearly whole life in captivity.

In fact, he was the last creature in slavery, as in Peru, it had been prohibited to treat with wild animals in this way.

The poor Musafa kicked off only a couple of months later from being liberated. However, he might enjoy his last months in the wild, being totally free.
