The story of this house for animals is non-standard and non-trivial: in 2008, the little son of Maryam al-Balushi brought home a kitten from the street. He played around and forgot about it – as is often the case with children.
But mom didn’t forget. Being at first strongly against the pet she got involved in caring for him, and then, after leaving the civil service at 42 to retire, she suddenly realized that no one needed her and she had nothing to do.
There are no animal welfare laws in Arab countries. None. Animals are not protected in any way by law or tradition. And Maryam found it unfair.
However, the practice has shown that compassion is not alien to people, only not everyone undertakes to change something in the established practice. But it is another matter to help a project already launched once by someone.
At the beginning of Maryam’s activity it was difficult to feed 500 animals, and also to pay for regular services of the veterinary service (and this all cost $ 7,800 a month).
Maryam is sincerely convinced that our planet was created by the Almighty not only for the comfortable existence of only one biological species – man. Animals also have equal rights with us.
