Elephants are famous for their protective behavior over their newborns just like many other animals. Mother always takes care of the calf when he starts to walk.
In this touching range of photos, a fauna photographer caught an adorable scene, where an elephant takes care of her newborn baby in the South African fauna.
Charl Stols was on a river ride in Botswana when noticed a mother elephant with her calfs approaching a river for a drink. He decided to take some photos of them and accidentally witnessed the cutest gesture a mom can do to her baby.
Due to the rough locality, the baby elephant tumbled some times. Gladly, his mother was always there to help him lift up with her trunk. Moms are called to help their babies and protect them – this is what they do!
“The smallest elephant was only couple hours old, still with a pink-coloured skin,” the Stols said. “At the river’s edge, the baby plunged down some times and the mother gently helped him lift up using her trunk.”
This warm scene touched even the photographer who used to capture elephant families.
“It was a very unique second,” Stols told. “There are many elephants in Chobe but that one must have been the tiniest elephant I’d ever seen. Unexpectedly, they even crossed the river to an island and the little one even managed to swim all the way.”
