Some call them giant flying couscous, others stick to the term large flying possum, although in reality, these creatures are smaller than a thin cat.

And recently in Australia, two types of animals were found at once, which are very similar to soft toys.

The animal weighs only 1.5 kg in adult form, eats exclusively vegan, and the most favorite food is eucalyptus leaves. A hungry couscous can easily climb 100m high for this treat!

And then it glides down like a flying squirrel, skillfully manipulating the skinny but furry body in the air.

Previously, it was believed that there is only one kind of these creatures, and even then already in a vulnerable position. But recently, scientists have made a discovery – in fact, there are three types!

They are all very similar, so they had to analyze the DNA to refine the data. In the north of the continent live the smallest flying possums, in the center of Australia they are already larger, and the fattest prefer to live in the south.

Couscous, like all animals, have been hit hard by last year’s fires. And now the environmental services have three times more worries – they need to protect three species at once!
