In the Canadian animal shelter Saving Grace Animal Society in the city of Alberta, once there was living a strange and touching couple: an eight-year-old dog Spike and the most ordinary cat Max. And all would be fine, but Spike was blind.
And the cat, the most ordinary one, without a pedigree, volunteered to be a guide for Spike. They ended up in the Saving Grace Animal Society after they were taken from their former owner, who could not cope with his duties to maintain them.
And the neighbors drew attention to this couple, who saw that Spike and Max lived in an open aviary, only partially covered with a roof. And they were very cold in winter.
So that they only slept, huddled close to each other to keep warm. Even when they were taken from there, they left this inhospitable place shoulder to shoulder.
Volunteers already then noticed that the dog and the cat were very close, and that Max did not move away from the dog at all, leading her along the safest routes and helping her navigate in space.
He would use non-verbal signs developed between them for a long time: short or long purring, touching with a reach, or paw, lingering “Meow” or hiss.
Therefore, when the question of annexing arose, there was no other opinion on how not to separate the visually impaired and his voluntary guide.
A photo of this couple was posted on the Internet, and almost immediately offers began to arrive from those wishing to arrange custody of them.
According to the results of the competition, the best applicant was chosen, and Spike and Max finally changed their place of residence, having found their House and their Man.
Now they know what human concern is, and most importantly, they will remain inseparable.
